Fr. Ray Donaldson, SJ

Visiting Spiritual Director

Ray Donaldson, S.J., has been a member of the Society of Jesus for twenty-four years and a Jesuit priest for fourteen.  He entered the Society after eleven years as a systems engineer working in telecommunications. As part of his Jesuit formation, he taught for two years in a public elementary school in a disadvantaged neighborhood in Charlotte, NC and completed two summer internship programs in spiritual direction.  After ordination, Ray served for three years as a teacher at Gesu School in Philadelphia and for six years as pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Durham, NC. He then completed his formal Jesuit formation in the USA tertianship program in Portland, OR. During his tertianship, he enjoyed offering talks and days of prayer on various topics in the Spiritual Exercises.  He next served a three-year mission in formation work as minister, treasurer, and assistant to the rector at Ciszek Hall, the Jesuit house of studies at Fordham University. He returned to Gesu School in the summer of 2018 as school chaplain. He has directed 8-day retreats and 19thannotation retreats in addition to providing on-going spiritual direction.  His hobbies are sports, reading, and chess.
