SUMMARY:Advent Directed Retreat Weekend 2025
DESCRIPTION:A directed retreat at St. Raphaela Center is a time of quiet in order to enhance attentiveness to God’s voice within you and in your life. A reverent silence is maintained throughout the Retreat Center at all times including during meals. Each retreatant meets with his/her director twice for approximately 45 minutes.  Each director possesses the necessary skills to guide their directees compassionately and peacefully\, allowing them to listen to God’s voice and to journey closely with their loving God\, both within the retreat setting and going forth into their daily lives.  The number\, nature and length of periods of formal prayer each day will depend upon the ability and needs of the individual and will be determined in conversation with the director. Retreatants are provided suggested scripture passages tailored to their own prayer. Ideally retreatants will have some experience in meditative prayer\, the desire to enter into prolonged silence\, and sufficient self-awareness to recognize their own inward movements. All retreatants have the opportunity for daily liturgy and reconciliation. \nDate: December 5 - 7\, 2025 \nTime: Starting at 4:00pm; Ending December 7 after lunch \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Companions in Matrescence: A Retreat Day for Mothers
DESCRIPTION:Matrescence – the process of becoming a mother – is the developmental passage of biological\, psychological\, spiritual\, and social changes as a woman transitions from preconception to postpartum and beyond. ~ adapted from Aurélie Athan\, Ph.D. \nWhether you are a brand-new mother\, have several children under your wing\, or admire your grown children from afar\, there is beauty and chaos. There is unyielding worry and limitless love. No matter your experience of motherhood\, you deserve some time and space to slow down with yourself and other mothers. Come as you are and explore themes such as identity\, mental health\, and finding God in the seismic shifts and glimmers of motherhood. Be nourished through a day of reflection\, sharing\, listening\, meals you don’t have to cook yourself\, prayer\, and community. \nOur retreat day will run from 8:30am to 4:00pm. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Fall Directed Retreat I 2025
DESCRIPTION:A directed retreat at St. Raphaela Center is a time of quiet in order to enhance attentiveness to God's voice within you and in your life. A reverent silence is maintained throughout the Retreat Center at all times including during meals. Each retreatant meets with his/her director daily for approximately 45 minutes. \nDate: September 12-19\, 2025 \nTime: Starting at 4:00pm \nCost: $625 - $725 (depending on room choice) \nRegister here by September 5

SUMMARY:Taizé Prayer with Adoration: Faithful Journeying
DESCRIPTION:The practice of contemplative prayer opens us to encounter and to be formed by this love that is poured out. Taizé worship is a contemplative communal prayer service that consists of meditative singing\, Scripture reading\, and periods of silence in order to reach a contemplative state. It is an international movement\, inspired by an ecumenical interspiritual community in France. At St. Raphaela Center\, we integrate our charism of Eucharistic Adoration with this contemplative worship. \nThis month\, we'll celebrate the Deacon St. Phoebe\, remembering her faithful journey to deliver Paul's letter to the Romans\, and listen for the ways the Spirit might be inviting us in our own journey. Our Artist-in-Residence Janira Bremner will offer a movement-infused reflection as a way of helping us discern our own movements within. \nCome to join us for a monthly Taizé prayer\, including Eucharistic Adoration that will extend in silence until 9pm after the hour-long Taizé service. \nTaizé Dates: 2nd Wednesday of the month from 7:30-8:30pm. Adoration continues until 9pm. \nAll are welcome – no reservations required. \nImage: St. Phoebe\,” ©2023 Angela Dimler

SUMMARY:Feast of St. Phoebe Prayer & Celebration
DESCRIPTION:A Historic Moment: Celebrating the Fruits of the Synod and St. Phoebe \nSeptember 3 marks the Feast of St. Phoebe at an historic moment for our Church. St. Raphaela Center proudly joins Discerning Deacons' global virtual celebration recognizing both this early Church deacon and the groundbreaking Paragraph 60 of the Synod's Final Document. \nParagraph 60 is new magisterial teaching that explicitly calls for expanded women's roles in Church leadership. This historic addition to Church teaching calls for greater women's access to roles already permitted by canon law\, increased representation of women's voices in teaching and preaching\, and continued discernment about women's access to diaconal ministry. \nThis development didn't emerge in isolation—it reflects the global consensus that arose during the synodal listening process\, where the call to "rethink women's participation" appeared in reports from every continent. As the document states\, the Church must move beyond simply recognizing women's equal baptismal dignity to actively promoting their full participation in Church life and mission. \nThe September 3 virtual celebration connects this contemporary breakthrough with St. Phoebe's witness—the deacon St. Paul entrusted to deliver his Letter to the Romans. From the early Church to today's synodal journey\, God continues calling forth women leaders to serve and proclaim Good News. \nJoin us for community\, discernment\, and celebration of the gifts and presence of women in the church in honor of St. Phoebe\, Deacon on her feast day\, Sept. 3!  We'll begin with a potluck meal together (sign up HERE) at 6:30pm. Then\, we'll move into a space of prayer and reflection around Paragraph 60 using movement with our artist-in-residence\, Janira Bremner\, tapping into what we're feeling in our bodies as women in our church context and expressing that through movement and words\, including a space to share together what we perceive the Spirit to be moving through us.  We'll wrap the evening by joining the Discerning Deacons on Zoom at 8pm for a meaningful moment of prayer\, witness\, and celebration of our Church's expanding recognition of women's gifts. \nCan't make it in-person?  Register and learn more about the 8pm (ET) Zoom at https://bit.ly/phoebe-2025

SUMMARY:Sound & Silence: the art of listening
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a very special experience of the senses in our Chapel. We will engage in the art of listening\, with sound and silence\, inviting participants to improvise sound\, with the direction and gentle facilitation of Eric Hollander\, our current Musician in Residence. No previous musical or improvising experience is required for your participation. \nWe will gather as a small ensemble of listeners so as to learn how to free the voice of the spiritual life\, express our journey in sound\, create listening spaces for one another\, and reflect together on the sonic experience. Improvisation (making sound with provided instruments) brings us to a moment of vulnerability and openness – and also to the edge of silence: into which a voice burgeons\, moves\, and comes to rest. \n“As a performing musician with experience in many different styles and contexts\, I have had the joy of finding myself often embedded in moments of improvisation. Over the years\, these moments of freedom became increasingly important to me and eventually opened up the possibility of engaging in music as prayer. As a musician\, this was an important achievement.” – Eric Hollander \n*Free-Will Donations are appreciated to support our ongoing arts programming. \nRegister here by July 21

SUMMARY:The Retreat That Never Ends: The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola
DESCRIPTION:This 5-day preached retreat will provide space for people of all backgrounds to experience Ignatian Spirituality. We will begin to explore the Spiritual Exercises through a series of daily presentations\, along with opportunities for reflection and prayer. This compilation of meditations\, prayers\, and contemplative practices were developed by St. Ignatius Loyola to help us deepen our relationship with God. The Spiritual Exercises grew out of Ignatius’s personal experience\, as someone seeking to grow in union with God and discern God’s Will. The retreat is divided into four parts. The first part will offer a time of reflection on our lives in light of God’s boundless love for us and a call to follow him. The meditations and prayers of the second part will teach us how to follow Christ\, as his disciples. During the third part\, we will meditate on Christ’s Last Supper\, Passion\, and death as the ultimate expression of God’s love. In the fourth part\, we will meditate on Jesus’ resurrection and his encounters with his disciples. As we walk with the risen Christ\, we set out as pilgrims on the road to love and serve him in concrete ways in our lives in the world\, through an integration of contemplation in action\, prayer and service\, guided by our emotions and reason. \nRegister here by July 1

SUMMARY:A Hidden Wholeness: Discovering God Through Photography
DESCRIPTION:We are living in a world that is absolutely transparent and God is shining through it all the time. God manifests Himself everywhere\, in everything – in people and in things and in nature and in events … The only thing is we don’t see it … I have no program for this seeing. It is only given. But the gate of heaven is everywhere. \nThomas Merton\, OCSO \n  \nThis workshop explores how photography can deepen our awareness of the Sacred through the art of photography. We will look at some examples of Merton’s photography and then engage our creative eye in an attempt to capture some of the Divine\, as focused in our personal images. In this afternoon gathering\, you are invited to take some time away to allow our perceptions to expand and become clearer. It will be a journey of attentiveness and presence\, as we capture our photos on the beautiful grounds of St. Raphaela Center. We will then share our efforts with our group\, providing some insight to why we chose these particular images and how it informs our spirituality. Photography can become our prayer\, reflecting the Glory of God. \nRegister Here by June 20
