SUMMARY:Embodied Spiritual Exercises
DESCRIPTION:The Embodied Spiritual Exercises is a five-week introduction to and extension of the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius. Originally developed by Saint Ignatius of Loyola in the 16th century\, the Spiritual Exercises are a series of prayers\, meditations\, and contemplations designed to help us grow in freedom and discern how to partner with God in daily life.\n\nThis series approaches the Exercises through the lens of embodiment\, inviting participants to engage the wisdom of the body. Although Ignatian spirituality encourages us to use our senses in prayer\, we often prioritize the intellect and imagination over other sensory experiences. By incorporating gentle somatic practices\, this series offers a more holistic experience of Ignatian prayer.\n\n\nEach two hour session will include movement\, prayer\, reflection\, and conversation. The first session will introduce participants to the foundations of the Spiritual Exercises and to embodied prayer. The next four sessions will explore somatic practices that follow the four major sections (called “weeks”) of the Exercises\, touching on themes such as desire\, discernment\, compassion\, suffering\, and interior freedom. Our final gathering will also provide space to reflect and consider how these practices can continue to nourish our everyday lives. \nThis series is designed as an accessible introduction for those new to the Spiritual Exercises\, while also offering fresh depth for those already familiar with Ignatian spirituality. SUMMARY:The Mass That Takes Its Time
DESCRIPTION:Looking to slow down and actually be present at the Mass? Us too. \nWe're delighted to share that we are beginning a monthly Sunday liturgy that values spacious contemplation\, where silence is savored and community is built. \nSpace will be created for 20 minutes of guided personal reflection and open-format faith sharing. We'll listen to the Spirit\, acknowledge each other\, and let the Word sink in. We'll gather around the Eucharistic Table without urgency in order to truly receive. We'll be sent forth in resistant hope to return to our lives renewed and refreshed. Mass will be between 90-120 minutes. \nAll are welcome to also BYO picnic dinner/snacks/beverages for optional fellowship and community in the dining room (or outdoors) after Mass. \nGoing forward\, we'll aim to host The Mass That Takes Its Time on the 2nd Sunday of the month. \nOur celebrant this month will be Fr. Ray Donaldson\, SJ. We look forward to praying with you!

SUMMARY:Taizé Prayer with Adoration
DESCRIPTION:"[In the cross] we see definitively revealed the only divine omnipotence that can claim to correspond with a God of love: an omnipotence whose face bears the expression of a limitless love that nothing can quench\, discourage or prevent from pouring itself out inexhaustibly" (Brother Emmanuel of Taizé). \nThe practice of contemplative prayer opens us to encounter and to be formed by this love that is poured out. Taizé worship is a contemplative communal prayer service that consists of meditative singing\, Scripture reading\, and periods of silence in order to reach a contemplative state. It is an international movement\, inspired by an ecumenical interspiritual community in France. At St. Raphaela Center\, we integrate our charism of Eucharistic Adoration with this contemplative worship. \nSpecial for this month: We'll celebrate the Deacon St. Phoebe in this month of her feast day (September 3) during our Taizé service.  In her honor\, St. Raphaela Center is participating in Phoebe Fall and hosting an educational forum about women\, service\, and the Catholic church prior to Taizé\, beginning at 6pm (a light dinner will be available at 5:30pm).  Find more information HERE. \nCome to join us for a monthly Taizé prayer\, including Eucharistic Adoration that will extend in silence until 9pm after the hour-long Taizé service. \nDates: 2nd Wednesday of the month from 7:30-8:30pm. SUMMARY:Holding Space: A Faciliator Development Circle
DESCRIPTION:This will be a development retreat for facilitators of retreats and programs of all types. We will explore together the art and practice of holding space for others as we deepen our facilitator gifts for offering programs. In a circle of companions\, with discussion\, reflection\, experiential exercises\, and peer learning\, facilitators will strengthen their capacity to create welcoming\, supportive\, and transformative experiences for others. Topics include presence and deep listening; creating safety and trust; navigating emotions and group dynamics; and boundaries and facilitator self-awareness. SUMMARY:Advent Abundance in Enough-ness: A Guided Weekend Retreat
DESCRIPTION:“Within abundance lies the belief that what you need will be available when you need it.” \nAdvent is the spiritual season of hopeful expectation and preparation for the coming of Christ. However\, in our modern secular society it can feel more like a precursor to permissive end-of-year capitalistic consumption. When we live\, move\, and have our being in a culture steeped in a market economy\, it is easy to slide down a slippery slope into assumptions of scarcity and competition\, instead of staying rooted in a theology of abundance and collaboration. Using the work of Robin Wall Kimmerer\, we’ll consider G-d’s economy and how we are invited to participate in holy gift-giving systems for mutual flourishing. Through radical acceptance of what we have\, instead of focusing on what we want but don’t have\, perhaps we can encourage one another this Advent season to recognize G-d’s extravagant enough-ness and cultivate our own prodigal practices of gratitude. \nPreparatory expectations for attendees include reading The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World by Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer in advance of the retreat.
