SUMMARY:Spiritual Directors Circle: Spiritual Guidance Across Faith Traditions
DESCRIPTION:The Spiritual Directors Circle of Delaware Valley presents\, \nSpiritual Guidance Across Faith Traditions\nFor the majority of religions\, spiritual guidance has been offered only within one’s own tradition—Catholics provided guidance for Catholics\, Buddhists for Buddhists\, etc. But increasingly\, people are expanding their spiritual direction practices to include people of other traditions\, and none. Our presenter\, John Mabry\, has been training people in the art of offering spiritual guidance “across traditions” for more than twenty years at the interfaith seminary\, the Chaplaincy Institute (www.chaplaincyinstitute.org). \nIn this lecture\, John offers a glimpse into theological ideas helpful in doing such work\, along with insights gleaned from his own practice of guiding people of various religious and spiritual persuasions. For this event\, we are pleased to offer a remote online option for those who are unable to attend in person. Please indicate this choice in your registration. You will be sent a link to use to sign in to the event; we will provide online break-out rooms for the discussion. \nEvent Details\n \nSchedule for the day: \n9:00 am – 11:30 am (in-person only): St. Raphaela Center welcomes all for optional contemplative time (arrive at any time)\n11:30 am – 1:00 pm (in-person only): “Catch up” time followed by lunch at noon\n1:00 pm – 3:00 pm: Presentation\, Q & A\, Small Groups and Closing \nCost: \n\n$50 includes lunch\n$35 if you are bringing your own lunch or for the online option\n\nREGISTER by October 16

Joyce Rupp\, O.S.M.\, & Macrina Wiederkehr\, O.S.B.\, "Autumn Blessing" SoulCollage® is a gentle\, contemplative practice that helps us notice what has been quietly growing within and is ready to come to fruition. SUMMARY:Taizé Prayer with Adoration
DESCRIPTION:The practice of contemplative prayer opens us to encounter and to be formed by this love that is poured out. Taizé worship is a contemplative communal prayer service that consists of meditative singing\, Scripture reading\, and periods of silence in order to reach a contemplative state. It is an international movement\, inspired by an ecumenical interspiritual community in France. At St. Raphaela Center\, we integrate our charism of Eucharistic Adoration with this contemplative worship. \nCome to join us for a monthly Taizé prayer\, including Eucharistic Adoration that will extend in silence until 9pm after the hour-long Taizé service. \nTaizé Dates: 2nd Wednesday of the month from 7:30-8:30pm. Adoration continues until 9pm. \nAll are welcome – no reservations required.

SUMMARY:The Mass That Takes Its Time
DESCRIPTION:Looking to slow down and actually be present at the Mass? Us too. \nWe're delighted to share that we are beginning a monthly Sunday liturgy that values spacious contemplation\, where silence is savored and community is built. \nSpace will be created for 20 minutes of guided personal reflection and open-format faith sharing. We'll listen to the Spirit\, acknowledge each other\, and let the Word sink in. We'll gather around the Eucharistic Table without urgency in order to truly receive. We'll be sent forth in resistant hope to return to our lives renewed and refreshed. Mass will be between 90-120 minutes. \nAll are welcome to also BYO picnic dinner/snacks/beverages for optional fellowship and community in the dining room (or outdoors) after Mass. \nOur celebrant this month will be Fr. Ray Donaldson\, SJ. We look forward to praying with you!

SUMMARY:Community Planting Day - Living Waters
DESCRIPTION:This planting day will be dedicated to learning about and caring for the Watershed. \n\n\nThis year's Season of Creation asks us to consider Living Water. Every drop of rain that falls here goes somewhere: into the ground\, or off it and downstream. What we do on this land is already part of a much larger body of water we share with everyone below us. Roots and leaf litter are how hard ground heals enough to hold what falls on it\, so we will spend the afternoon planting shrubs and ground covers. No experience needed. Come dressed for the dirt! \n\n\nWe Need Your Hands! We are transforming the grounds at St. Raphaela Center into a haven for local biodiversity\, and we need volunteers to help us get these plants in the ground. This is a great activity to join the Church in prayer and celebration of the Season of Creation! \n\nWhen: Saturday\, October 10\nTime: 1:00pm - 3:00pm\nWhere: We will meet outside the dining hall.\nWhat to bring: Garden gloves\, a trowel (if you have one)\, a reusable water bottle\, and sun protection.\n\nPlease register so we know how many to expect!

SUMMARY:Our Common Home: A Season of Creation Retreat
DESCRIPTION:As the Season of Creation draws to a close\, you are invited to spend a weekend in the company of the land — slowing to its rhythms\, sharing in its repair\, and meeting the Spirit at work in all creation. Over three days together\, we will plant the first young native trees and shrubs of a woodland still to come; make mandalas from the leaves\, seeds\, and stones the season has dropped; share unhurried meals; gather around the fire as each day ends; and close with an outdoor Creation Mass on the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. Along the way there will be time\, space\, and quiet to notice the movement of God: in the land\, in one another\, and in yourself. All you need to bring is an openness to where the Spirit might be moving\, and a willingness to work gently alongside others. \nRegister here by September 27

SUMMARY:Fall Directed Retreat I 2026
DESCRIPTION:A directed retreat at St. Raphaela Center is a time of quiet in order to enhance attentiveness to God's voice within you and in your life. A reverent silence is maintained throughout the Retreat Center at all times including during meals. Each retreatant meets with his/her director daily for approximately 45 minutes.  Each director possesses the necessary skills to guide their directees compassionately and peacefully\, allowing them to listen to God’s voice and to journey closely with their loving God\, both within the retreat setting and going forth into their daily lives.  The number\, nature and length of periods of formal prayer each day will depend upon the ability and needs of the individual and will be determined in conversation with the director. Retreatants are provided suggested scripture passages tailored to their own prayer. Ideally retreatants will have some experience in meditative prayer\, the desire to enter into prolonged silence\, and sufficient self-awareness to recognize their own inward movements. All retreatants have the opportunity for daily liturgy and reconciliation. \nDate: September 11-18\, 2026 \nTime: Starting at 4:00pm \nCost: $650 - $750 (depending on room choice) \nREGISTER by September 4

\nCost: $650 - $750 (depending on room choice) \nREGISTER HERE by July 9\nOnline Option (Online Spiritual Direction ONLY)

SUMMARY:To Human
DESCRIPTION:We often find ourselves with a never-ending task list\, created and fueled by this insidious and invisible need to be worthy and valued. We are encouraged to be machines rather than humans\, hailed for our ability to run on fumes rather than being fully nourished. What does it mean to honor being human? How do we take our God gifted place and make space for others to do the same? Will we embrace our core identity and co-labor with our Creator in His sustainable way? This day of retreat will provide an opportunity to slow down and receive our gift of being; to connect with and nourish our body\, mind\, and spirit; to learn and practice the 6 pillars of lifestyle medicine; and immerse in creative\, healing practices. We will make delicious\, nutritious plant-based recipes together to align with how we feed ourselves with God-purposed food packages. We will practice connecting with one another and with creation as we create a safe space for grounded nourishment. \nSaturday\, May 16\, 8:30am to 4:30pm \nThe cost of participating in this retreat is $85. \nREGISTER by May 10

SUMMARY:Enrichment Session for Spiritual Directors: Finding Your Voice as a Spiritual Director\, Part II
DESCRIPTION:Finding Your Voice as a Spiritual Director\, Part II: Tools for Discovery and Growth\nIn Finding Your Voice as a Spiritual Director - Part I (February 2025)\, participants explored several connected topics to help them discover their own voice as a spiritual director: unpacking the meanings of "spiritual" and "direction\," examining the late-20th century history of spiritual direction\, considering how the 1970s creation of training programs unintentionally narrowed the diversity of approaches\, reflecting on one's own growth as a director\, learning from directees\, and growing through supervision and peer support. The central insight was that directors can move beyond a "rulebook" mentality to let their unique voice emerge\, much like a singer who learns to stop controlling what their voice "should" sound like and allows what is authentically theirs to come through. \nIn Finding Your Voice as a Spiritual Director - Part II\, you will work with Father Shaun McCarty's dimensional framework\, which organizes spiritual direction practice into four categories: structural (how your practice is organized)\, relational (how you and your directee relate)\, theological/spiritual (what beliefs shape your practice)\, and methodological (how you actually work). Using this framework\, you will explore different approaches to spiritual direction developed in the 1970s—from CRD's focus on deepening relationship with God through prayer to Shalem's contemplative-evocative stance to Van Kaam's “co-constitutive” approach where both directee and director are transformed.  You will also examine how your own training may have locked you into certain positions or left you free to adapt. The seminar will give you time to reflect on what voices from the past have shaped you; how your practice has evolved; what gifts now feel solidly yours; what you want to let go of; and what you feel drawn to change. Time permitting\, Part II will also address common struggles directors face in sessions\, reconsider whether a directee's "thinking" is always problematic\, and explore how gender shapes the spiritual direction relationship. \n* NOTE: Participation in Part I is not a prerequisite for this webinar. A brief review of Part I will be included at the start of Part II. All participants will be asked to complete a pre-seminar survey to help organize the presentation. \nRegister by May 3\nThis event will take place virtually on Sunday\, May 10\, 1:00-4:00pm. The cost to attend is $30.

SUMMARY:Help Us Build "Soft Landings" – Community Planting Day for Earth Day
DESCRIPTION:What are Soft Landings? Did you know that many of our favorite butterflies and moths start their lives in the canopy of our native trees\, but actually finish their life cycle on the ground? "Soft Landings" are intentional plantings of native sedges and flowers beneath trees. They provide a safe\, pillowy habitat for beneficial insects to over-winter and transform\, rather than falling onto hard turf or being disturbed by mowers. \nWe Need Your Hands! We are transforming the grounds at St. Raphaela Center into a haven for local biodiversity\, and we need volunteers to help us get these plants in the ground. This is a great activity to celebrate Earth Day! \n\nWhen: Saturday\, April 18\nTime: 1:00pm - 3:30pm\nWhere: We will meet outside the dining hall.\nWhat to bring: Garden gloves\, a trowel (if you have one)\, a reusable water bottle\, and sun protection.\nWhat we’re planting: A beautiful mix of Pennsylvania Sedges\, Christmas Ferns\, and Golden Ragwort.\n\nPlease Register Here so we can anticipate how many will be coming. Thank you!!

SUMMARY:Stories of Faith: The Power of Stories to Shape and Encourage Our Faith
DESCRIPTION:In this retreat we will explore stories of those who have come before us in scripture\, saints and our families to notice Christ moving in our own life story. \nThis day of prayer and reflection will be facilitated by Shemaiah Gonzalez\, the author of the book Undaunted Joy: The Revolutionary Act of Cultivating Delight. \n"Through her own stories\, Gonzalez discovers along with you how joy is the fruit of knowing God. Like God\, once you start looking for joy\, you might start finding it everywhere. Like God\, sometimes it initially feels unsafe. \n"Perhaps these stories\, of finding joy in laundry and Van Gogh's paintings of sunflowers\, in daydreaming\, and even in the darkest of places\, will allow you to see life anew. Perhaps you will\, like me\, no longer wait for the big things to happen but will find there is abundance today. Each day holds joy in the mundane and the magnificent—we just need to learn to see." \nOver the course of these 37 essays\, Gonzalez\, vulnerable and lively\, will draw you into a new way of seeing that will revolutionize your everyday. It's time to claim God's goodness and share it with abandon\, not in spite of the brokenness of the world\, but because of it. \nIt's time to live joyously." \nYou can learn more about her book by visiting her website at https://www.shemaiahgonzalez.com/undaunted-joy. \nMarch 17\, 9:00am to 1:00pm. \nCost to attend is $60. \nRegister Here by March 10
